Beefy Mushroom Burgers

Ingredients:

2 pounds 95% extra lean ground beef

1 pound mushrooms (16 ounces or about 6 cups), finely chopped

1 large onion, finely chopped

4 garlic cloves, finely minced

2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

1 egg white, lightly beaten

2 tablespoon breadcrumbs

Pinch salt and pepper

8 whole grain buns

Sliced tomato, onion and dark green lettuce leafs

Preparation:

Sauté onions, garlic and mushrooms in a large nonstick frying pan sprayed with cooking spray over medium high heat for 3-5 minutes, stirring; drain any excess liquid and place in a large bowl.  Add ground beef, egg white, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce and bread crumbs; thoroughly combine.  Form ground beef mixture into eight patties, cover and refrigerate for 20-30 minutes.

Place burger patties in the same frying pan (option to broil or grill) over medium high heat, 4-5 minutes per side or until internal temperature reaches 160 F.

Serve burgers on whole grain buns garnished with a slice of tomato, onion and a dark lettuce leaf.
