My promise to you is to cut through the clutter and bring you the latest information based on science and evidence. As a registered dietitian nutritionist, writer, and nutrition communicator, I have devoted my career to educating consumers and professionals with facts, not myths. My goal is to earn your trust and be a source to help you live a healthier life.
My past work experience includes a wide variety of food and nutrition education and communications including being the director of nutrition at WebMD for the past 16 years, serving as the nutrition expert for United Healthcare, Food & Nutrition Magazine contributing editor, Assoc. Professor of nutrition at St. Mary’s Dominican College and internship director at Ochsner Medical Institutions, serving on national advisory boards and more.
My media experience started back in 1982 when I wrote an article ‘Rating the Fat Fighters’ analyzing the latest diet trends for the Times Picayune, New Orleans. As a result, I was invited as a guest on a local radio show which ultimately turned into my own weekly radio program for four years. Getting experience in radio led to being selected as a state media representative and then an American Dietetic Association (ADA) ambassador. I served 12 years as a national spokeswoman for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly ADA) with over 1000 print and media appearances, including CNN, Good Morning America, NBC Nightly News, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times. I contributed to several books including Chef Paul Prudhomme’s Fork in the Road, Healthy Eating for Babies and Toddlers, and A Harvest of Healing Foods.
One of the most satisfying aspects of my media work was media training healthcare professionals and as nutrition director, helping build the online food and nutrition portal at WebMD.
I am so honored that my work in nutrition communications has been recognized and awarded by the following professional organizations:
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics:
2016 Lenna Frances Cooper Memorial Award, “in recognition of a distinguished career and remarkable contributions to the profession”
2007 Media Excellence Award “contribution and commitment to educating consumers”
Montclair State University: 2014 Distinguished Alumni Award
Institute of Food Technologists: 2012 Media Award for Excellence in Consumer Journalism.
The American Society for Nutrition: 2011 Nutrition Science Media Award “for outstanding science and nutrition journalism”.
My commitment to promoting sound nutrition advice also includes being active in local, state, and national dietetic associations. I served as director-at-large on the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics board of directors for 3 years, as a trustee of the Georgia Dietetic Foundation, and 6 years as the Georgia delegate to the Academy’s House of Delegates. I earned my master’s degree in public health from Tulane University and bachelor of science from Montclair State University.
